What is a Pathfinder club?
The Pathfinder Club is the Seventh-day Adventist Church's club for young people aged 10 to 15. The General Conference Youth Ministries site describes it as a church-centered spiritual, recreational and activity program, organized worldwide by the General Conference Youth Department and run by the local church.
Members work through achievement classes (Friend, Companion, Explorer, Ranger, Voyager and Guide) and honors, short courses that introduce a subject. Requirements for both come from your church's official materials, so this planner leaves them to you and only handles the clock.
Running a meeting on time
- Pray as a staff team and set up the room before the doors open, so the first block starts on time.
- Put the longest hands-on block where energy is highest, usually after worship and class work.
- Let Pathfinders lead parts of worship. Older teens can plan a short outline with a leader beforehand.
- Keep a plan B: a backup activity for bad weather, a missing instructor or a room you can't use.
- Leave real time for clean-up and announcements, so the meeting ends when parents expect it to.
Write the agenda for your staff, not just for yourself: print one for each instructor, or paste it into the message you already send them.
Some conferences involve teens in planning too: the South England Conference's teen leadership handbook asks trainee leaders to help plan meeting schedules, worship outlines and backup plans.
Ideas for each block
Opening and worship. A song, a short Bible reading and prayer, and anything your club says together at the start. Our hymnal index finds any hymn in the Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal by number or title, and has the words of some historic hymns you can print.
Bible and class work. Time in small groups on the class requirements in your official class materials.
Honor or activity. A hands-on session: one honor taught across several weeks, or drill and marching if your club practices it.
Service and planning. Prepare an outreach project, plan an outing, or give units time with their counselor.
Clean-up and closing. Put supplies away together, share announcements, close with prayer and see everyone safely to their ride.
Our example and a conference sample
Our five blocks are our own starting point, scaled to 60, 90 or 120 minutes. The Southeastern California Conference publishes a suggested club meeting schedule of about two hours and says clubs may adapt it. It includes staff prayer and room set-up before the doors open, opening exercises and worship, classes, drill and marching, honors, clean-up, a general assembly and a closing prayer.
If your club drills every week, add a block for it. Rules such as how many meetings count for monthly points belong to each conference, so check yours rather than relying on another conference's policy book.
Meeting on a Friday evening?
For Seventh-day Adventists the Sabbath begins at sunset on Friday. If your club meets on a Friday, check that week's sunset with our Sabbath sunset times calculator and plan around it as your church does. This planner doesn't know sunset times.
A prayer before your own apps
PrayLock is an iPhone app for adults and their own phones. It puts a prayer before the apps you choose, once a day with Daily Devotion or before each app session with Mindful Moments. It doesn't manage clubs, classes or young people's phones.
PrayLock requires a Pro subscription and iOS 18.0 or later. See how PrayLock works, or browse our other tools.
Pathfinder meeting planner: common questions
How long is a Pathfinder club meeting?
It depends on the club. The Southeastern California Conference's sample schedule runs about two hours, from opening exercises to dismissal, and says clubs can adapt it. This planner starts from 60, 90 or 120 minutes, and you can change every block.
What ages are Pathfinders?
The General Conference Youth Ministries site says Pathfinder Club members are 10 to 15. Where a church has two clubs, 10 to 12 year olds join the junior club and 13 to 15 year olds the teen club.
Does the planner track classes, honors or attendance?
No. It only times an agenda. Class and honor requirements, and any records, stay with your club and its official resources.
Is this for the Girl Guides' Pathfinders?
No. Other youth groups use the name, but this page is only about Seventh-day Adventist Pathfinder Clubs.
Is my agenda saved?
No. It stays in your browser tab and isn't sent anywhere. Print, copy or download it before you close the page.
